HOW STRONG IS THE RESIN?
Whilst the resin is a strong material, it isn’t as strong as your natural teeth, or other restorative procedures such as fillings, crowns or veneers.

At WTDP, we like to have a consultation with our patients first before we go ahead with the treatment, to understand what your expectations, goals and desires are regarding your smile and what you hope to achieve from the treatment. This allows us to really listen to you, and also to make sure you understand what it is that we will be doing and how we intend to go about achieving it – allowing us to be on the same page as you. We will discuss things like:
- What it is you want to address with the treatment – shape, size, etc
- What shade and colour you want to achieve – we will discuss all options
- Timelines for you and us – what you would like and how realistically we can provide it for you
- Finances – we are transparent with costs right from the beginning and will try our best to work around any potential constraints you may have
We will then do a quick mock up for you, which will give you a rough idea of what your final result will potentially look like. You can tell us at this point what you like and what you may want to change. You can also take as many pictures of this as you like, to look back on and share with you family/friends to get their opinion on as well.
There are several advantages of Composite bonding over and above other treatments which aim to alter teeth shape/colour and enhance smile, such as Veneers and Crowns.
- Non-invasive – there is no need to cut your natural teeth, material is just put over your teeth and sculptured.
- No injections – this is a painless treatment so no need for numbing injections.
- No drilling – the whole treatment is quite gentle, there are no sounds or vibrations of drills. In fact, so many of our patients fall asleep during it!
- Cost effective – this is cheaper than having traditional veneers or crowns.
- Quick – the whole process can be completed within a single appointment.
- Mostly reversible – no treatment is 100% reversible, so we will certainly make no such claims! But since there is no drilling or tooth cutting involved, composite applied over the teeth can be removed by the dentist.
Each case is different and we treat all patients as unique individuals, so it’s never a case of one size fits all (or one regime for all). For patients that have crowding or mal-aligned teeth, Invisalign treatment may first be required to correct the alignment, prior to bonding. In a lot of patients, teeth whitening first may also be advised. All this will be discussed in the consultation appointment.
How long composite bonding lasts for depends on each case. We use the best materials, but composite will invariably lose its shine with time, and stain. It is for this reason we recommend popping in to see us for a quick polish every 6 months or so. How quickly composite stains depends on your lifestyle – coffee, tea, red wine, curries, etc will all stain composite as well as affect teeth whitening. If you grind your teeth, the composite will chip much sooner too. It may also chip if subjected to any strain or force at an awkward angle, when eating or biting. The good news is that it is very easy to fix, you just need to come see us and we will take care of any chips (as well as stains).
Composite bonding starts at £250 per tooth at WTDP. The full price will depend on the treatment you are getting, and we try our best to help you out as best as we can.
All our composites come with a 1year warranty. This means that any problem within 12 months and it will be sorted out for you free of cost, so you can enjoy your new smile stress free.
